Apply to Participate in AQIP

AQIP welcomes application from any Higher Learning Commission-accredited institution that has undergone at least two comprehensive accreditation reviews (i.e., initial accreditation and one subsequent reaccreditation). Any institution applying to participate in AQIP before August 30, 2012 must have received its most recent official notification of reaccreditation letter from the Commission no earlier than September 1, 2005

Institutions considering applying must first participate in a phone conference with Steve Spangehl to be certain they appreciate the pros and cons of AQIP participation, avoid application mistakes, and understand the goal of all seven application questions. So that institutions new to AQIP can quickly mount Action Projects, applying institutions should have already completed some form of quality-based preliminary self-assessment that included an outside perspective, or have concrete plans to do so. To schedule a phone conference, contact Babatunde Alokolaro or Susan Devine; for contact information, see the HLC staff directory.

Institutions not accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (or major divisions of institutions) can participate in AQIP in order to use its processes for improvement and for the opportunity to network with other institutions that are practicing quality principles and tools. This associate participation is appropriate for institutions not located in the North Central Association region (and therefore not eligible for Higher Learning Commission accreditation) or for divisions (such as the School of Education, the College of Engineering, or the Student Affairs Division) of large institutions that are not basing their overall accreditation on an institution-wide quality initiative. Associate participation requires the same level of involvement as using AQIP to maintain accreditation, except that accreditation is not part of the relationship.

Review the Application and Instructions for Applying to AQIP. The document contains the actual application and instructions for completing it, understandings and expectations of institutions that participate, and the application affirmation. Submit the application by email to AQIP, and have the president or chancellor sign and fax back the Application Affirmation.

The Commission has created a Sample AQIP Application for reference.
